Turning Rubble Into Something Beautiful

Just finished Phase 2 of this beautiful backyard project. My client had acquired a yard full of limestone from a nearby excavation and wanted to use it to build a small dry-stone wall as a property divider. I started the project by sorting the rocks into different sizes and shapes, then began digging the trench that the stones would sit in. I lined it with landscaping fabric and filled it with crushed gravel and used the compactor to tamper it down. Then I began the labour of love that was the wall, using the largest stones on the base and slowly making my way up to the 3 foot height, backfilling the free space between stones with gravel and soil to help keep the structure strong and stable. I then removed the remaining soil and stones from the yard in order to begin Phase 2. I removed the top layer of soil as well as the existing pea gravel, laid landscaping fabric and covered with four yards of fresh pea gravel. This project was a lot of work - battling the snow and rain, as well as a steep stair entry to the backyard. Regardless of any challenges I am so pleased with the outcome.
